Today, Life Really *IS* a Beach!!

The kids and I went to the Grand Haven city beach this morning. It was an absolutely perfect beach day - bright, sunny, 83 degrees, and only lightly breezy. We've had such absurdly hot weather for the last week that the lake (near the beach anyway) had warmed up to a quite pleasant swimming temperature. Everyone was healthy, happy, and thrilled to be at the beach, so we were able to stay there for several hours.

The kids dug a little hole in the sand with a channel to bring lake water swooshing in with the waves. We were all extremely surprised to see this little fish (minnow) swimming around in the little pool. We watched it for a while, but when the water level in the pool started to fall and the fish looked a little frustrated, Lily caught it and released it back into the lake.

There were thousands of shells in the shallow water today, so Lily collected a bunch and decorated her sand castle with them. You can see that it was a very fun, and somewhat tiring outing. All THREE kids had naps this afternoon, which is unheard-of.
It looks like a wonderful time was had by all! I remember digging a channel like that with Lily and Gregory one summer, but we didn't find any little fishies in ours!
ReplyDeleteOh, I am JEALOUS! Today we had rain, rain, and rain, and we cleaned in the basement.
ReplyDeleteWow, did Lily catch the minnow with her hands? They all look so happy.
Hannah, the little fish swooshed into our pool with the waves, and when it was time to release it, Lily caught it in her fingers and took it to the lake.
ReplyDeleteOkay...I'm jealous. Just a little jealous. Just an eensy teensy bit...I can't wait to go to the beach this weekend! Here's hoping we have nice weather.
ReplyDeleteMiles LOVES looking at pictures of his cousins! Especially Henry, because he thinks babies are very interesting.
